Continuing a commitment to ensuring that the Chicago classical music lineup contains at least one major vocal recital each season, the 2017 Collaborative Works Festival's annual solo recital will be held on September 7, 2017 in Ganz Hall, presented in collaboration with Roosevelt University’s Chicago College for the Performing Arts.
This year’s solo recital headliner willfeature Chicago-favorite Susanna Phillips. The Ryan Opera Center alumna enjoys a widely diverse career that spans the world’s leading opera houses and concert stages. Regularly appearing in leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona and the Zurich Opera, Phillips also is a frequent soloist with the world’s leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. A devoted chamber musician and recitalist, Phillips has been presented in recital by Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston’s Celebrity Series, the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. She collaborates with many leading chamber musicians including pianists Anne-Marie McDermott and Brian Zeger, as well as the Emerson String Quartet, and she is a co-founder of Twickenham Fest, a chamber music festival in her native Huntsville, Alabama. For this recital, Phillips will be joined by her longtime recital partner, pianist Myra Huang, who paired with Phillips for an album of French mélodie, Paysages, about which the San Francisco Chronicle praised Phillips’ “singing that is both tender and fearless,” and raved “Huang is a formidable pianist.”
