SINGERS & PIANISTS
CAIC Artistic Director, tenor Nicholas Phan, leads the 2021 Collaborative Works Festival Master Class on repertoire exploring themes of immigration and migration, and/or works by poets and composers who migrated or immigrated during their lifetimes.
Six singers will be selected to participate. Singers may bring their own pianist and participate as a duo; otherwise, a pianist will be provided. To apply, please submit the following to [email protected], subject heading “2021 Festival Master Class”, no later than September 17.

ABOUT NICHOLAS PHAN
Committed to education of audiences and musicians alike, Nicholas Phan served on the voice faculty of the DePaul University School of Music from 2018-2020. In the fall of 2020, he was Virtual Artist-in-Residence at University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music.
In demand as a master class clinician, he has taught master classes for the Tanglewood Music Center, Eastman School of Music, University of Michigan, Oberlin Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, DePaul University, University of Chicago, University of Houston, Longy School of Music, Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, Oregon Bach Festival, Kansas City Symphony, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco State University, Portland State University, Emory & Henry College, San Francisco Girl’s Chorus, and the Bay Area Vocal Academy.
In 2021, he curated a recital project for the Merola Opera program, also working intensively with the singers and pianists as they prepared for the performance. He has also led professional development sessions for Tanglewood Music Center, Eastman School of Music, University of Michigan, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Oberlin Conservatory.
Devoted to promoting the art of song and the vocal recital, he has given numerous talks on the relationship between text and music for both student and adult audiences through his work as the vocal artist-in-residence with San Francisco Performances from 2014-2018, as well as with the Laguna Beach Music Festival, and Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago.
